To begin with, let’s define glowing skin. Glowing skin has a smooth texture and reflects light to give your face a natural glow. In order to achieve this, it is important that you follow a skincare routine consistently by using products that suit your skin while avoiding harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and dyes.
As recommended by dermatologists, you should always layer your skin starting with the lightest product and ending with the thickest, and babes, always - always remove all make up before calling it a night.
Here is an ideal skincare routine for glowing skin:
Cleanse twice a day. Cleansing is important as it wards off excess oil, dirt, dead skin cells, and any makeup residue. It is the first and most important step as it prepares your skin for the next steps. This step should be followed in the morning and at night - religiously. However, limit to two times per day, as over cleansing can strip off essential oils from your skin and disrupt your skin’s pH. We recommend using our cleansing micellar waters or milks (choose from our green tea and charcoal waters, or coconut and roses milks). They are formulated with different active ingredients that will remove makeup, revitalize, and detoxify your skin!
Exfoliate once a week. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skins cells. As we age, our skin stops shedding dead cells on its own, so we have to interfere. The exfoliation process can come in chemical, physical and enzymatic forms – use the best product for your skin.
Serums are your skin’s best friend. Serums contain powerful ingredients that target your skin concerns (dark spots, acne, fine lines, you name it!) The formulas are so concentrated that a daily recommended application can include just a few drops. It is recommended to apply serum two times per day (morning and evening) for better efficiency and quickest results!
Moisturize. Do you feel like skipping this step every once in a while? Think again! Lack of moisture can trigger extremely dry or oily skin, leading to acne and other concerns. Moisturizing your skin helps repair your skin’s barrier while preventing water loss. Besides, moisturizing gives you a slight shine (check please!).
Apply sunscreen. Sunscreen protects your skin from harsh sun rays. UV rays can mess with your skin’s smooth texture and prevent it from getting that desired glow. Dr. Harish Koutam, Chief Dermatologist at SkinKraft, highly recommends wearing sunscreen throughout the year, regardless of the season.
Exercise. Whatever interests you, go for it! Many studies prove that exercise helps you release toxins from your body and skin and improve blood circulation- eventually leading to a healthier, glowing skin.
Eat your greens. Along with products, it’s also important to be mindful about what we eat. A diet consisting of processed foods- high in sugar and fat- can cause dry skin, acne, oiliness and dark under-eye circles. In contrast, a diet packed of superfoods, and lean, high-quality proteins, veggies, and good fats are best for supporting healthy skin.
Get your sleep. Getting enough sleep assists in cell turnover and exfoliation. It is recommended we get 6-8 hours of sound sleep for glowing skin. Remember, lack of sleep can result in dehydrated skin, puffy eyes, fine lines, and dark circles.
